Cover of the Groves et Michaux edition of A Rebours (1884), (tr. Anonymous), published anonymously in Paris in 1926. A numbered limited edition. To my knowledge this is the first instance of a novel advertising itself as “a novel without a plot,” apart from Elbow-Room; A Novel Without a Plot (1876) by Charles Heber Clark, of course. See plotlessness.
